Huge Legislative Win for Physical Therapy in Indiana!
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of lawmakers, bill authors, and multiple healthcare stakeholders including APTA Indiana—SB 480 is now law! This legislation brings long-overdue reform to prior authorization processes and improves timely access to care.
Key Wins in SB 480:
- No PA for the first 12 PT visits (excludes Medicaid)
- No denial of services that were prior authorized
- 48-hour turnaround for peer-to-peer reviews; 24-48 turnarounds following adverse determinations and appeals.
- Clear rules for unanticipated services and adverse determinations
- Transparency in policy changes and consistent PA timelines
- PA stability and portability across plans
