Call for Students to Attend PT Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC

It is once again time for APTA Indiana to start looking for students to attend PT Day on Capitol Hill (CHD), held in Washington, DC. CHD is part of APTA’s annual Leadership Congress and is scheduled for July 24-25, 2023. CHD will take place at the Omni Shoreham Hotel by the National Zoo in Washington, DC, with actual visits to Capitol Hill legislators taking place on the July 25. We will talk about regulatory affairs and federal priorities, have numerous speakers, and announce some new information that comes with a new Congress. Do not miss this opportunity to learn more, network with fellow colleagues, meet with congressional staff, and spend time in a great city filled with opportunities.

What is APTA IN looking for? Glad you asked.

  • This opportunity is open to all student APTA Indiana members only.
  • All we ask is that you send in an essay that outlines what you would like to learn by attending CHD. That’s it!
  • Once all essays have been received, a decision will be made as to who attends, based on the submitted essays.
  • All are welcome to join us in DC, but for those who are chosen via their essay, APTA Indiana will cover (estimated value – $1,000 per student):
  • Registration
  • Airfare (coach class)
  • Hotel (sharing of rooms is expected
  • Typically, a Meal or Two
  • Travel To/From All Airports (IN & DC) are On Your Own
  • I ride the Metro in DC, which is highly reliable, safe and CHEAP!

All essays due by May 1, 2023, allowing the students who have been chosen to attend, time to make their final arrangements.

Reimbursement for airfare, hotel and meals will be handled after CHD. It will be your responsibility to pay for these things up front and submit a reimbursement request afterward (with receipts).

Your final responsibility after CHD will be to submit a short reflective essay to the APTA Indiana Board of Directors, letting them know what you learned and how attending affected your professional views on legislative activity. Your reimbursement is subject to submission of your final reflective essay.

Please send your essay or questions to Blair Frye, PT, Federal Affairs Liaison:

Please be sure to include all relevant contact information (address, email and phone) as part of your essay. Also, please do not submit the essay in the body of your email to me. Please attach your essay to your email.
